donut

A ride on my Anerican-made Harley is sort of mandatory for Independence Day. I chose to ride to the end of 117 to enjoy another American tradition: a donut & iced coffee. Surprise! Boston Cream donut with sprinkles today!

Over the summer I attended a Harpoon Brewery X-Night, an event in which Harpoon introduces a new special secret brew. This one particular X Night was a collaboration with Union Square Donuts: the beer was described as donut-complementary and U.S.D. was on hand to help out. For a mere $20 I got: An awesome mug. Two pours of the special beer in the mug. And two U.S.D. donuts: maple-bacon and milk chocolate frosted (being veggie I got two chocolate). Happy X Night!!!

But this post is actually not about the X Night. I won a raffle at the event for a free Union Square Donut! I’d been there before, but now it was time to return and actually give them Due Donut Diligence.

Donut: Having tried the Milk Chocolate Frosted at the X-Night (not chocolatey enough), I opted to try Boston Cream. It was AWESOME. THE BEST EVER. Good dough and nice dark chocolate flavor to the frosting. Oh, but the cream, the cream, the delightful vanilla bean cream… I dream of that cream, and so perfectly complimented by the other elements of the donut.
Coffee: Meh, sour, and regrettable as last time. Boston’s idea of ‘good coffee’ does not align with mine.
Overall: The donut is massive – FILLED the clamshell – and fantastic. Totally worth the $3.50

For brunch, T.W. Food in Cambridge offers a bakery selection which includes a donut.

T.W. Food: Donut

Donut: Complete with donut hole. Light airy cake donut with crunchy exterior crust. Good vanilla flavor to the dough with a touch of cinnamon-sugar in the crust
Coffee: Excellent strong coffee from Karma Coffee in Sudbury, MA
Overall: Pricey but worth the $$
